Beginning in 2020 the St. Joseph’s Orphanage Restorative Inquiry partnered with the Vermont Folklife Center to document the experiences and lives of Inquiry participants. The interviews explore childhood memories, the lifelong impacts of their time at the orphanage, and how, over time, participants have worked to heal.
Many of the stories are jarring--heartbreaking and difficult–-and some, particularly accounts addressing physical and sexual abuse, may not be appropriate for all listeners. Please exercise caution and self-care in accessing these testimonies.
The clips and full interviews will be preserved in the Vermont Folklife Center Archive as well as made available here on the St. Joseph’s Restorative Inquiry website. In addition to online access, the interview clips are also part of a traveling exhibition: The Voices of St. Joseph’s Orphanage Exhibit. For up-to-date information on exhibition locations, see the News page.
